My Net Worth Doesn't Matter

My Net Worth Doesn't Matter

Lately, my account has begun booming again. A few weeks ago, I had 210,000 followers. As of writing this, I’m sitting at 214,000. I might not be the biggest or most viral finance content creator on the app, but I take great pride in knowing that I’ve never asked anyone for money.

My account is build on the premise that learning how to trade and/or invest should be accessible to everyone, not just the people who can afford it. That’s why I’ll never sell a course, access to a private discord, or offer one on ones. When someone DMs me to ask me a simple question, I ask them to post it publicly on one of my videos so I everyone can benefit from their question.

But the most persistent question I’ve gotten recently is: What is your net worth?

That question, and several variations of that question, surface every time I go live. How much do you make? How many shares do you own?

And I understand it. I get why people ask that question, especially in the finance space where there are so many scammers. I do believe if I was to sell a course it would be beneficial to be fully transparent with my trades: This is how much I spend on the trade. This is how much I made/lost.

But I don’t sell a course. I provide information and education. So what I make or how much I’m worth doesn’t benefit anyone. And the one thing I’ve learned after 3.5 years on social media is there’s no pleasing anyone.

If someone doubts me and they ask my net worth, it’s already a losing battle. If I say I’m worth $4,000,000, they’ll call bullshit. If I say I’m worth $500,000, they’ll scoff and say, “That’s it?? You suck!” And let’s address the other issue: anyone can photoshop anything. So when they ask for proof, it doesn’t matter. They’ve already made up their mind about me. If I were to show proof, they’d just accuse me of photoshopping it.

But the largest issue is: all this persistent questioning only detracts from my message about financial education. Every time I have to have this argument with a troll/hater/or genuine doubter, it takes away from someone else being able to ask a question.

So, you can guess. You can ask. You can call me a coward for not sharing. I don’t care. My net worth, the size of my portfolio, or my annual income doesn’t benefit anyone and only puts me at risk. And this is coming from a guy who has gotten TWO death threats from people on TikTok.
